This week we combine two of my worlds Miami and Chicago. Dom Cee is a hip hop artist originating from Chicago but currently based in Miami. He wears several hats such as audio engineer and music producer. Some of his notable engineering credits include Kodak Black, Loe Shimmy, Sean Kingston, Jasmin Cadavid, 808 Mafia, Dashius Clay, Rygin King and Khaotic305. He has been in the music industry for over a decade.
Thoughts on the song
As a fan of Dom Cee, this song is in his musical wheelhouse but is also very different. His delivery is more aggressive than some of his other songs. The song talks about him staying focused on paper and knowing that a lot of people can just get in the way. He has been doing this all alone so why bring anyone along? I can relate to that because some of the people closest to you are actually your biggest haters. I can respect that Dom Cee can look back on where he came from and acknowledges how much work he has put into getting to where he is now.
The chorus is catchy and easy to remember with my favorite line being “Never did I have something to lean on, remember back whipping the Nissan.” No hate to Nissan, I had one coming up too but Dom Cee has definitely upgraded from those days. The featured artist YJ also did his thing and piggy backed slightly off of Dom’s verse with his own twists and references. It is dope to see the difference in cadence, and tone compared to other tracks Dom has done. Looking forward to more from Dom Cee in the future.
