Today we discuss having media coverage at your event. I’ve given so much advice, I might do an event in the future. Media is super important for your event. You should reach out ahead of time to book them. Discuss what they offer and how it aligns with your goals.
Establishing relationships with local media outlet early on can make the segue into event coverage easier. This should be done by the event organizers. Media passes or a media list is crucial to getting the media in the building. A media pulpit is also great for interviews and media professionals to leave their equipment.
While media is there you want to make sure they are taken care of. What they post after the event can make or break you. They have sway in the industry and can use those connections for good or bad.
If applicable provide assets to the media person, whether that is sound bites, the flyer or soundtrack. Provide them with access to the event space so they can gather their assets as well.
Some artists have maneuvered themselves enough to have their media team to the event. As an event organizer you should be aware of and reach out to these source and ensure you accommodate them. Even if they are not there for you, water that relationship.
Another aspect of getting media coverage is asking the venue if they provide any media coverage. Some organizers or venues will have an artist liaison to connect the artists and the media. You can also spot media if they have custom made shirts, hats, etc.
Making connections with the media especially if you notice an artist is bringing their media team. Other artists should network and see how the artist was able to accomplish that. Again, event organizers should also make these connections for future events.
