Artist Advice: Handling Event Recaps

This week we talk about handling event recaps. This happens when your event is all said and done. Now isn’t the time to relax because there is still a lot left to do. You should follow up with the media that was at the event and always be gracious when reaching out.

First thing you want to do is follow up with them within a few days. Be conscious of when you reach out. Always thank them for coming out and ask for an ETA. Ask if they need any additional assets or clarifications about event details.

Check the recaps they do for any errors. Most media won’t get upset for you pointing out an error. Professional media sources may provide disclaimers when they do not get an appropriate response.

If there is any criticism within the recap take it constructively. Do not bash the outlet. They are there to provide coverage, whether good or bad. This is different than a defamatory remarks. You can ask for redactions but when it is constructive you should take it and use it on the next event.

Once the recap is ready you want to promote it. Otherwise why did you have the media come out? This also encourages the relationship. This can make it easier for the media source to want to cover your next event.
