This week we have a bit of a controversial video about addressing negative event recaps. We use the term negative lightly since there is a stark difference between negative and constructive. Watch the full video for a mini story time about dealing with someone who couldn’t tell the difference.
The first piece of advice is pretty simple: don’t be a dick. Essentially, don’t allow your ego and emotions dictate how you react to free media coverage. Now that we got that rant out of the way the next piece of advice is to embrace feedback. While we do watch our wording and sometimes won’t post crappy events there are situations where it is unavoidable but we always stay true to our brand by being honest.
You may have gotten tired of me saying this but you should stay professional at all times. During this segment we also have out story time. All I’ll say is if you know you know. This also segues into the next segment which is reaching out to the right person when you want an edit.
At the end of the day you cannot control the narrative. All you can do is your reaction. You should also stay aware of you’re dealing with since people talk. It’s a small community so opportunities may fall apart because of one interaction. I also discuss the right way to address these negative recaps.
If you have a local event in Chicago you want media coverage for and to be posted on a top 100 hip hop blog send it to mellystarzsubmissions@gmail.com or head over to our contact page for more information.
