The last video in the event space for now is about when you should say no to performing at an event. Don’t take every. single event. Consider some of these aspects when choosing whether to agree to an event. You want opportunities that are mutually beneficial. I know it can be hard to say no when first starting out but sometimes saying no is saying yes to yourself.

The first consideration is whether there are incentives to performing. You may want to say no if there is no media coverage or opportunities for the future. Some media coverage is better than none. Artists can also try to bring their own media team but be weary.

If the event is disorganized this can be a red flag. The event organizers should be organized and keep you informed on what is happening before, during and after the event. Payment is a tricky topic to discuss but it is another consideration depending on where you are in your career.

Ultimately, you want to consider whether this performance will help your career and how. If it won’t then maybe you should reconsider. Networking is key to getting opportunities so consider if there will be these opportunities from the event. Remember you must put your career first and see where you are when applying these rules of thumb.
