Masani Imani comes to us today currently in Cali after leaving Chicago. While she is California Dreaming she’ll be back in Chicago soon as many of her roots are here. She is starting 2025 with a bang, first by visiting Melly’s Couch and then announcing her big move. Now she is here to give the people what they want…new music.
Thoughts on ‘Masani vs The WRLD’
Masani starts the track by talking to us. It has been a minute since her last track. She warns us that she will leave everything on the floor for us, and she truly does. She had a lot to say and she isn’t scared to say it. If you’re offended then too bad. She tells us how she’s using some interactions now to prepare her for when she’s in the room facing those fucking crackers that think they can dictate OUR space. but ultimately, she knows the Most High has her back. I love how she says .”This for the ones wondering who next? Stop playing, man they know I’m the best.”
I can relate to “They never wanted me to make it this far. Made it to Chicago and I aint got no car.” The emphasis on car is almost like an insider, if you know you know. She also mentions other places that she has visited or lived in. I like how some of her doubles or ad libs are her singing. Throughout the song she takes us through her story and all the places her journey has taken us.
The song is such a reflective piece making you think of what you’ve been through and get immersed in her path. I feel many people can relate to different aspects of the story. My biggest and only grip is the effects towards the end of the song. The words are so powerful and a testament to the Most High that I would have preferred fewer effects so the words could hit you even harder.
At the end of the day, you’re either with Masani or against her. There is no in between! Masani is a messenger and that is in every aspect of her delivery, cadence, and wordplay. The beat selection is meant for a war cry type of song like this one. I like the oohs on the beat.
