This week we have another TooGood Open Mic Winner: Cosmo Juggaknott with their song CHOPPA TALK. We also have a performance video attached. The remix is with Dom Da Mago on electric guitar.
Thoughts on the song
I went ahead and listened to the the original song first before the remix. The original version goes hard. It has the bass and a little bit of rock sounds. I am almost tempted to say it is borderline rock rap. The electric guitar version takes the song to an entirely new level. The guitar is immaculate and adds to the underlying rock themes. This is now a rock rap song which is a newish genre to me.
Lyrically Cosmo does well with the catchy bars and hard hitting lyrics. Ultimately, the premise of the song is about the relationship with friends, bitches and of course the choppa. She is very familiar with the use of the choppa and is going for dome. “Niggas going in the grave and not the hospital” basically sums up Cosmo’s intentions. Another line I like is “I’m with my brothers right or wrong but I’m still holding them accountable.” Essentially, this means having your brother’s back but checking them when necessary.
Dom eases us into the guitar at first and then he hits hard. I love how he shines at the end with a mini solo. I’m not sure whose idea this was but the merging of sounds was beyond flawless. Now let’s talk about Cosmo’s delivery. She stays on time with the beat and guitar with minor inconsistencies. The remix visuals are fun and low key. It’s a simple setting by the lake. I like how when the guitar goes hard the effects come in as well. I do wish a different font style was used so the words would be more legible but overall the visual element accomplished its goal.
Final Thoughts
After listening to both the original and remix I would say my favorite it the remix. There’s just something about the guitar that takes the song to another level. I also think the delivery on the remix is slightly more precise than the original.
