Von Venn, ‘Be Free’

Von Venn

Von Venn have just released “Be Free,” and, this might be their strongest single yet. The Dublin band are three tracks deep into previewing their upcoming album “Forgetting the Fall,” and they’re really hitting their stride.

After “You Can Talk To Me” and “Only In The Night” set the stage, “Be Free” comes in with a completely different energy. This is a song that makes you want to roll down the windows and sing along, even while it’s delivering a pretty vital message about thinking for yourself in a world that’s constantly trying to tell you what to believe.

What I really appreciate about this track is how Von Venn managed to wrap something meaningful in a package that’s just pure fun to listen to. That nostalgic rock vibe is there, the kind that reminds you why you fell in love with this kind of music in the first place, but it never feels like they’re stuck in the past. It’s got energy, it’s got heart, and Gary Cox’s vocals absolutely soar on this one.

The chorus is massive. Once “We should be free, say what we want, put it out to hear, tell anyone” gets in your head, good luck getting it out. But that’s the beauty of it. The band are talking about manipulation and control, about how information gets twisted until you don’t know what’s real anymore, but they’re doing it with this infectious, uplifting sound that makes you feel empowered rather than beaten down.
