Da Poloman, ‘Love At First Sight’

Da Poloman and Sara Alavi are back, and they come with a tone which is mesmerising on their latest release ‘Love At First Sight’.

Predominantly a love track, this piece comes with energy which flows from the instant and although the lyrics may sound a little cheesy at times, they still push through with vigour, and the catchiness sticks like chewy on the bottom of a boot.

Jameel Mason, ‘Quarantine Mami’

Jameel Mason is the New Brunswick rapper whom everyone is talking about at the moment. Why? Because he is sending a wave across hip hop with his new track ‘Quarantine Mami’ which sees him team up with Alix Ford.

‘Quarantine Mami’ comes with a synth lead line which stays genuine to the modern scene. It is a sound which we are hearing all across the music industry at the moment and not just in hip hop. So much so, it appears that if a track does not have synth in it, it does not appear neat. Well, the synth has never sounded quite as influential as it does here on this release. Also, it fastens us in instantly ahead of a top-class vocal performance from Jameel.

Suman, ‘Crazy Over You’

Suman is the London vocal star who is leading the way for female hip hop in the UK. Furthermore, she smashes it on her new release ‘Crazy Over You’ and choosing to work with producer; Ayo Beatz is paying off tenfold.

The track starts with a vocal sample which even the accurate of ears will
struggle to understand. But, who cares? It sounds excellent and follows a similar pattern to a lot of the modern hip hop tracks gracing the airwaves. From the intro, a stellar electronic steel drum sound appears, and it strikes deep with a low and mesmerizing character. This sound keeps playing for most of the track, and it is the leading instrumental hook, it sounds exquisite.

Tanaka Makoni, ‘Lust’

Tanaka Makoni is a hip hop and soul artist who proves her talent on this new track ‘Lust. She resides in London, and she has a very British sound but yet also shows cosmopolitan with an eclectic mix of world sounds too popping in her latest record.

‘Lust’ is a story of love, and the message which Tanaka explains is clear, but she also leaves a lot open to the imagination. Also, her approach to music is unorthodox with her often blending gentle ballad style vocals with rap bars making for quite a remarkable listen.

It all gets underway with a tapping beat which gets the rhythm flowing instantly. A melody intro vocal then arrives, and it echoes around in harrowing effect. Vocally, Tanaka then pops up from underneath the mix with her heading straight into the chorus section. Here she takes hints from some of the contemporary hip hop tracks which follow a similar direction. We hear it a lot of this these days in modern music, and it is the current trend for the chorus to lead us into the rest of the track. For me, I believe it is an excellent approach because it cements the leading hook early on, and it leaves a longer-lasting mark.

The rap which Tanaka delivers is cogent. Furthermore, words flow from Tanaka’s mouth as if she was born to be a performer. She does not muddle her words, and although she raps relatively gentle and in a soft pace, she proves her quality to deliver a meaningful story in an agile fashion.

Overall, it is a track which will be reverberating out of hip hop basements for quite some time. It has a feel-good rhythm but also provides a profound message with nail-biting meaning. You can take a listen to ‘Lust’ by Tanaka Makoni below.
