On the Season 5 premiere we sit down with the musician Masani Imani. The scene is small and we start by recounting an event that I was part of organizing and ended up in the back of one of her videos. As always we start from the beginning and we take it all back to Masani’s parents who are also entertainers. Next we talk about her first performance at age 9 and how she has evolved into a seasoned performer. Her experience in California almost made her quit music but luckily she didn’t and we’re here now. She has since been back and changed her perspective on Cali.

After her time in Cali, she decided to move to Chicago. The story behind this transition is epic and very similar to Melly’s story. We align on so many things. As a seasoned performer Masani has had many performances since moving to Chicago starting with an open mic in her neighborhood.

While discussing the Too Good Open Mic we also delve into how ‘Walking Feet’ came to be. We blame the ancestors. She also discusses how important the Chicago community has been to her growth. Chi-Palooza was a major performance where she sold more tickets than she needed to. She also did Eyez on the Prize in November and the Fall Harvest Festival.

While out performing she also met D-Low who is a local celebrity. She tells us the entire story about their interaction. This interview is jam packed with full circle moments and Masani discusses many of them. She also gives us her new bucket list of venues she wants to perform at. One of the most important performances she has had is ‘From My Higher Self’ which she brought out a child who looked like her. Protecting children is also a major goal and part of her journey.

One way she gives back and helps children in the industry is through Pass The Mic Ent. She also started hosting open mics in the city titled ‘Vibe with Masani’. To advance her career and provide additional services she has gone back to school to learn engineering. She also offers classes to others.

We delve into her name and the significance of it. It also reverts back to her spirituality. We also talk about her songs that are out ‘California Dreaming’ part one and two. It’s a long and heartfelt story that you have to watch to feel. She is also currently working on ‘Liberation Music’ that is an upcoming album and movement. Masani rubs elbows with lots of famous people including Tupac’s sister. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Masani Imani. We all have to stay tuned for whats to come.
