OG Denzo is one of Chicago’s most authentic artists coming from the Northside. The Rogers Park native delivers a heartfelt visual to his hit single “VOIDS” shot by @Mofilms312. This video perfectly illustrates the story being told through his lyrics. OG Denzo highlights the emotional turmoils one goes through while juggling everyday problems in Chicago. His versatility & relatability through his music truly make him an artist to keep an eye out for!
Now that we know more about this week’s song and video, let’s dive into the music first. It is truly an emotional song that could go over your head if you aren’t paying attention. OG Denzo tells us a tale of being down and having faith that things will get better. He also delves into how people didn’t believe in him and how challenging it can be to separate friends from snakes. A classic story of how people aren’t there when you’re down but when you’re up they want to come around.
Thought on ‘VOIDS’ by OG Denzo
The video starts off with OG Denzo and his son riding in the car, singing along to the song. Then, we head into various shots of OG Denzo in different locations. The main shot is in the woods. He also has performance shots sprinkled throughout. He shows us highlights from his career, like being on the radio. There are also some mic shots and city shots. Overall, the video gives us a good variety of locations and shots. The cinematography is top tier and this feels like a Hollywood production. It is crisp, clear and of the highest quality. MoFilms was an excellent choice to bring the vision together.
Now, let’s talk about the symbolism of these images. While you might think it is a simple shot, OG Denzo put a lot of thought into the visuals. He wants the audience to see the correlation between the song and video concept. Did you catch it? If you didn’t, then you need to watch again, but I’ll do you a solid and break some down.
OG Denzo starts off walking through the woods alone to symbolize his independent journey. He is pensive and looking towards the future. The next shot is him driving, again very pensive and driving into the future. We see a shot of him at a radio station looking down, which can symbolize his gratitude for making it that far. This also serves as a glimpse into that beautiful future he was thinking about in the woods.
When he starts singing we’re taken back to the woods and it’s a desolate area, again showing how you are oftentimes alone on your path. When the lyrics start he says “I know the feeling being down, hoping money come around.” which brings us back to the desolate woods symbolism. The trees are dead and ‘feeling down’.
We get another glimpse at a performance shot showing that bright future again. Next, OG Denzo is standing on a sidewalk while everyone passes him by. This goes perfectly with the line about “nowadays it’s hard to separate friends from all the snakes.”
Things are starting to look up for him as he gets a mic in the woods. Even the trees are beginning to regain some color when the mic is introduced. This is symbolic of his turning to music and pursuing his passion. You can’t be down forever, nor can you flip ounces and bricks. At some point reality hits and your passion ignites like a fire in the woods there’s no stopping OG Denzo now.

My final thoughts on the video and song are it is beautifully executed. The song tells a story and catches your attention. It is relatable no matter where you are in your journey. It also inspires you to keep going. While this is OG Denzo’s story there are so many relatable bars. The video further illustrates the message and story OG Denzo is trying to portray. There are no negatives for me on this release, 10/10.
OG Denzo is an artist with thought-provoking lyrics, symbolic imagery, and a bright future ahead. This is someone you want to keep your eyes on. He has already gained notoriety by being on the radio, performing throughout the city, and now as a new artist in Mellsville (Top 100 Hip & Rap Blog in the country). ‘Voids is his latest visual release off his EP “STOP ME WHEN I’M LYING.”
