Concrete Club, ‘People Like Us’

Concrete Club

I caught Concrete Club’s new single “People Like Us” on Emu Bands last week and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. Right from the opening, that funky indie guitar just grabs you. It’s the kind of riff that makes you want to move, and when the drums come in it gets even better. The synths add something sweet to it all, and then Rowetta’s voice hits and it’s like getting knocked back in your chair. That’s the moment you realize this isn’t messing around.

The track pulls you through different moods without feeling scattered. It starts cool and measured but within a few bars it’s got this energy that just won’t let go. The way everything sits in the mix, especially those synths, feels deliberate. The rhythm section is locked in tight, one of those hypnotic grooves that makes you feel it in your body rather than just hear it.

For this one they brought in Rowetta on vocals and Jonny McGill on drums alongside Jonny Brewster, Kallum Delf, Mark Demuth, and Jamie Butterworth. It could’ve felt like a crowd but instead it just makes the song feel wider, more alive. You can still hear the band’s DNA all through it though.

This is the best thing Concrete Club have put out so far. It’s the moment where everything they’ve been building finally clicks into place.
