Cloud has a way of making you wait for it. “Nobody’s Dreaming,” out June 26th, opens so quietly you barely notice it start, then it grows around you until you realize you’re already deep inside it.

I put this on expecting background noise and ended up sitting still for four minutes. The synths build in layers, patient at first, then thick enough to feel physical. It has that anthem quality without ever reaching for it, the kind of song that hits you emotionally without needing to explain why.

What strikes me most is how assured this feels. Cloud has quietly built a real audience, over 160,000 Spotify plays, most of them from the US, which says a lot for an independent artist working out of Japan. “Overdrive” alone sits at 120,000 plays, and his work has found its way onto mainstream radio twice and into more than 100 Western outlets. He’s also brought in collaborators like Luis and Alex along the way, and you can hear that sense of craft paying off here.

“Nobody’s Dreaming” sounds like an artist who knows exactly what he’s doing and isn’t rushing to prove it. Give it the room to build. It’s worth the patience.
