Jessmin has just released her debut EP “Hyperfixated“, out now across all streaming platforms. It features five tracks: the four singles she’s already shared, plus the brand-new title track, which landed the same day alongside its official music video.
“I can get completely caught up in a person, a feeling or even a conversation that hasn’t happened yet,” she says. “While I was working on these songs, I realised they all touch on that in their own way.”
The title track is all about spotting someone across a room and not being able to look away. You play out every possible interaction in your head, again and again — but never actually step over to say hello. The verses are fast and restless, and the chorus is the kind that sticks after just one listen.
It came together really quickly too, written in a session arranged by AT Publishing, alongside Alexander Haak and Stijn van Rijsbergen, with the first demo finished that same day. She then brought it to Nick Jongejan, the producer she’s worked with for years, and was closely involved right through production and mixing. The music video follows the same story, set over one night in a bar: she sees someone early on, and by the end of the evening they’re all she can think about.
Her influences come through clearly: the guitar sound nods to Avril Lavigne and Hilary Duff, who she grew up listening to, while the electronic and synth side draws from artists like Charli XCX and Oklou.
