Overview:
The album was a great piece of work. There was a bit of everything for every ear. I can tell why WYA? is the single off the album because of its replay value and lightheartedness. There is a track for everyone on the album which is hard to find in today’s day and age. I have actually added it to my rotation. I enjoyed Meta and all the artists he featured on the album. Dirty Water- This song definitely starts off interesting and gets you hype. It feels like a song that needs to be on an action movie soundtrack. The harmonizing throughout definitely adds a unique element to the track. The song is on the shorter side at only two minutes. It leaves you wanting more.
Drip- Speaking of more, the next track drip is upbeat but more mellow. I love the Nintendo reference due to growing up on the console myself. The song essentially talks about getting used to the Drip. What does your drip say about you?
Paranoia- The beat on this track reminds me of a metronome. As the title suggests, this song is about being paranoid about who is around you and who you can trust. We sadly live in an era where you have to questions every new face and who you can trust. You have to stick to your crew because you never know who’s an opp.
Broken- For Broken, things slow down a bit now and we move into the must-have love song. We are joined again by the melodic voice of Quentin Arispe. The song tells the story of a broken girl who couldn’t get to 100% in the relationship. She couldn’t handle the pressure that the entertainment industry brings with it. However, by the end of the song, the question arises of whether she was the only broken one in the relationship. This is one of my favorite songs off the album due to its relatability. I’m sure we’ve all felt broken at some point or another.
Anxiety- Meta talks about his anxiety and the struggles that come with it (which I know all too well). I also caught the roll in peace reference throughout.
Afterhours- This is a lovemaking song. We can make love in the afterhours, when our artist is in town of course. It’s more of a friends with benefits situation which can often work better than anything else. She doesn’t want to fuse or fight or waste time, she just wants to smoke some and get it on.
Cien- This song is in a different language at first so I can’t comment on that part even though I know 3 languages. I might just be unaccustomed to listening to music in anything but English. What I did catch was a Spanish line saying that what everything he learned was from the streets. The song is a unique addition to the album so I can’t be hate on trying to cover all your fan bases.
WYA?- Last but certainly not least is the album single that has a video attached. It is an upbeat and catchy track. This track is just so fun and what drew me into listening to the rest of the album. He just wants to see this girl to get some much-needed motivation 😉
About META:
Meta is an up and coming artist out of Corpus Christi, Tx and released his debut album, Metatation over the summer. The album was released via El Dusty’s imprint Americano and is produced by Grammy-nominated artist El Dusty. The album has Lo-Fi Hip Hop feels with Reggae riffs and some Latin Cumbia. To say that the sound is unique is an understatement.
His life was not as easy as many of us have had it, facing multiple moves and even homelessness at a young age. He followed his hustle and began rapping on the streets and selling merch out of his backpack. He later started Meta Entertainment, curating shows and cultural events in the South Texas area which helped develop him as a staple in the area not only as a performer but also as an event host.
