Akerejeh is a Nigerian-American producer, songwriter and recording artist born in new Jersey. Akerejah has been making music since the early 2000s. The idea for Butterfly Haus came about in in 2019 but did not come to fruition until 2022. The previous name for Butterfly Haus was SAZE. Now, let’s get into the song and video accompaniment.

If you look at my relationship trajectory and put it in a song this would be it. Everything about this song and video is perfection. Lyrically, the song speaks about love, identity, introspection and mental health. Sometime toxic relationships feel like home because of past trauma. Red flags are turned to green flags. In Masters and Experts, each person becomes a master or expert in toxic traits like self-destruction, avoidance and other harmful actions. I was an expert in self-sabotage, like the song says, “Just when everything’s going right, I start another fight.”

The song and visuals mesh the past, present and future seamlessly. You can see the progression of the relationship the further you get into the song. The video is an instant classic from the scenes, effects and messaging. I kept watching it because I enjoyed it and wanted to find other underlying themes, not because I was reviewing it. The graveyard scene took me a few takes to grasp but once it hits you, it hits hard. The final shot is beautiful.

Right when you think it’s over, we get a final shot of the couple while the credits roll. The song has alternative pop, hip hop elements, indie rock and some 70s/80s sounds. Basically, if you went into my head looking for my favorite elements this would be it. I had to add this song to my personal playlist along with the #StarzOnTheRise one.
