On another episode of Melly’s Couch we sit down with someone who wears so many creative hats including rapper, producer, videographer, photographer, manager, CEO and so much more. Smokey Smothers has been in the industry for over 20 years. Music runs in the family since Big Smokey Smothers and Little Smokey are some of her ancestors. They were big names in the blues scene in Chicago. They inspire her daily and have been the premise of her upcoming project aptly titled ‘The Legacy’.

Smokey Smothers has had many names and we take it back to when she went by Smokey J. They delve into her acting experience during ‘Behind Closed Doors’ which was a web series. Melly Starz does her digging and finds that Smokey did a rap battle in ATL once upon a time. Smokey is a hot commodity and you have to have deep pockets to book her. She opens up about her first performance and her first paid performance.

As a producer she also makes beats. We discuss her previous beat tapes and her process. You can still hit her up for beats. She gets inspiration for her beats from comic books. She is also a scriptwriter with a project still in the works.

Smokey is an international sensation with fans in Sweden, Tokyo and elsewhere. She is very active with her fans by providing contests and creating content. This is why they are so supportive of this superstar. She also has several alter egos, all with a different style and vibe. She also went on tour in 2022 which is something many people can only dream of doing.

She also drew inspiration from Kanye West and made a beat a day to practice her skills. her parents were a major support for her and they always gave her the tools to make beats and make music in general. A little known fact is Smokey Smothers is CEO of Spaceflight Media. They delve into how it began and why there was a huge hiatus. They also speak about the return and how instrumental her new team has been in bringing back her media company. They encouraged her to shoot music videos and provided her the tools including a new Macbook, she needed to get back in business. Her team also helped her get on the media list for two major events thrown by Yung Tact in 2024.
